A Matilija Poppy, Romneya coulteri, blooms in Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens in Santa Barbara, California. The Matilija Poppy is a native Californian shrub perennial that grows below 4000ft. away from the immediate coast. The name is reported to come from Chumash Indian Chief Matilija from Ventura County. It is included in the California Native Plants Society's (CNPS) invetory of rare and endangered plants.
