An American Black Bear, Ursus americanus, has its midmorning snack in Round Meadow in Sequoia National Park, California.  Photographed with a Nikon D300, Nikon 300mm lens with a 1.4 teleconverter. The Black Bear is the most common bear species in North America and can been seen throught the continent in at least 40 states.  There is an estimated 600,000 Black Bears in North America, half of which are in the United States.  Although, in Louisiana and Florida the Black Bear are a threatened species and are listed as endangered in Mississippi, eastern Texas and Mexico.
